I know that it’s after Christmas, but it’s still the Christmas season and this book was too sweet to pass up. Rabbit’s mom knits him a beautiful hat to keep his ears warm for the storm that is headed their way. Rabbit realizes that their friends will need hats too, so Rabbit and his mom secretly make all of their friends new hats for Christmas and deliver just as the storm starts. It’s at about that time that Rabbit realizes that he’s been so busy with his friends’ presents that he forgot to make something for his mom. What will he do?
Mouse from the If You Give a Mouse books is decorating his Christmas tree. This book is great for the babies, toddlers and preschoolers in your life. It’s a board book that let’s your little ones count the ornaments as Mouse puts them on his tree. They will likely love the surprise ending, too.
This books follows in the spirit of The Night Before Christmas, but with a dinosaur twist. It has a little drama…an herbivore eats Santa’s list and then there’s a volcano that Tyrannoclaus and his reindeer dinosaurs have to navigate their way through, but it is also a sweet rhyming story or Tyrannoclaus persevering to get all of the dino kids their presents. If you have a child who loves dinosaurs, then they will love this book.
This would be a great book to share with the toddler, preschooler or kindergartener in your life. The illustrations are wonderful, it rhymes and it shares the story of Hanukkah as well as the traditions that go along with Hanukkah.
Bubba Brayna makes the best latkes around and soon the rabbi and many townspeople will come to her house to light the menorah and celebrate with good food and fun games. It seems that one of her guests, the rabbi, gets there a little early and eats all of the latkes before anyone else arrives. Or was it the rabbi? Bubba’s eyesight isn’t too great and it turns out that it wasn’t the rabbi, but a big brown bear. This book is so cute and your kids will think it’s hilarious as Bubba plays dreidel with the bear, as she tries to take his coat off and that she has to help him say the prayers as she lights the menorah.
Trevor has a serious case of the “wants” at Christmas time which results in him having a list for Santa that’s SO long that it’s going to cost him six trillion dollars just to send it. Trevor goes home to figure out what he really wants so he can have a shorter list, but he’s too slow and misses Santa’s deadline. What he does get on Christmas morning is a lesson in love.
The magic of Christmas is getting closer and closer and Santa is beginning to feel a tingle in his toes. That tingle signals Santa that it’s time to trim his beard, get the sleigh ready, polish the bells and check his book. This is such a beautiful book. I love how the author depicts Santa getting ready and how the reindeer can’t fly until just the right moment when the magic happens. Even if you’re not a huge Santa book fan, the illustrations in this book will warm your heart.
Little Wolf is having a very difficult time falling asleep and he needs a teddy bear to cuddle with to get the job done. The trouble is, he doesn’t have one, so he sets off into the woods to look for one. He meets all kinds of people in the woods who mistake him for a big, bad wolf until he finally runs into a plump old man in a red suit that needs him to huff and puff and blow up a flat tire. Turns out that plump man in a red suit knows exactly how to get a teddy bear and he sends Little Wolf home with promises that in the morning he will have one.
Inspector McSqueaks uses all of his high-tech gadgets, like a Sleigh-Bell-Sound-Sensor-Machine to try and catch Santa in the act, but despite his best efforts and his best technology, Santa is always just one step ahead of him. Not only is this an adorable story, but it rhymes too and I am a sucker for cute stories that rhyme. I got this book a couple of years ago as a Christmas present from one of my preschool students. I absolutely love it and it is one of our favorite Christmas books.
P.S. This isn’t a book you are going to be able to find at the library or even at Amazon. It is a Hallmark book, so if you are interested in finding it I would start there. I asked the people at Hallmark via Twitter where readers would be able to find it. I am just waiting for an answer.
This is the perfect book for sharing the Christmas story with small children. The story is simple, yet beautiful and the illustrations are warm and soft. You will get this book out again and again, year after year.
