Daddy’s Little Scout by Janet Bingham

July 13, 2010 - 9:36 am No Comments

Little Fox has gotten too big for the den he lives in with his daddy, so they are on a search for a new place to live. Mrs. Finch and Squirrel live way up in the trees and although it would be neat to live in the trees, foxes don’t live in trees. They discover a mouse’s house, but Little Fox is too big and noisy to live in a little hole like a mouse. The stream where the fish live is too cold and wet for Little Fox, but it is fun to splash in. Mole’s hole is too dark and and rabbit’s hole is too crowded. Little Fox and his daddy dig and dig and dig all afternoon to make a den that is just right for them.

Mama, is it Summer Yet? by Nikki McClure

From the text to the illustrations, this is such a sweet and simple book. I love the repetition, too…enough to engage a little one and get them involved, but not so much that it gets in the way of the story. A child wants to know if it is summer yet. His mom lovingly reassures him that it’s not summer yet, but if you look around you can see that nature is preparing for it and soon you will see signs that summer is here.
