Adventure Annie Goes to Kindergarten by Toni Buzzeo

August 5, 2010 - 2:41 pm No Comments

Annie is looking forward to all of the adventures she is going to have in kindergarten. She puts her walkie-talkies, her high wire slippers, and her zookeeper hat in her backpack just in case. Once Annie actually gets to kindergarten she finds that her teacher doesn’t want her to be quite as “adventurous” as she is used to being. Annie does end up having an adventure, however, when two of her classmates get sent to fetch the milk for snack time and don’t return. Adventure Annie saves the day!!!

A Place Called Kindergarten by Jessica Harper

Tommy always goes down to the barn in the morning to say hi to the animals and to bring them all a treat. On this particular morning, however, he hasn’t shown up and the animals don’t know why until the family dog comes down to the barn to inform them that he heard the people in the house talking about it and Tommy went to a place called “kindergarten”. The animals are very concerned about what this place is, what it looks like and why Tommy is there. Tommy finally comes home at the end of the day and goes straight to the barn to tell the animals everything he learned that day. This is an adorable and very sweet story.

First Day, Hooray! by Nancy Poydar

It is the day before the first day of school and Ivy is buying new shoes and a new lunch box. The bus driver is going over her route, the custodian is shining the floors and Ivy’s teacher is making name tags for all of her students. The story goes on to show what everyone does that night to get ready and also the morning of the first day of school. It’s a fresh take on the first day of school theme…it not only shows how the child is getting ready, but how everyone has to get ready for the first day of school.

Jake Starts School by Michael Wright

Jake is so nervous on the first day of school that he ends up attaching himself to his parents and won’t let go. His parents have to spend the whole day with him, but Jake realizes that if he doesn’t let go of his parents he is not going to be able to play with the other kids, or paint, or make things out of clay, or seesaw or climb the jungle gym. At the end of the day he finally lets go and gets to help his teacher hold the book while she reads to the class. Kindergarten turns out to be a great year for Jake, too. My favorite part of the story, I must admit, is when he gets so nervous he passes gas. 🙂 Very cute story with an adorable rhyme.

First Grade, Here I Come by Nancy Carlson

The first day of school is over and Henry is telling his mom all the ways that first grade is different than kindergarten. He gets to sit at his own desk (not a table), he makes some new friends and even sees some of his old friends from kindergarten, he learns new songs, he tells his mom all about eating lunch at school for the first time and how his teacher picked HIM to deliver a note to the office and he didn’t even get lost. He’s a big first grader now!

Sammy the Shark is SO excited about the first day of school! The only problem is that when he gets REALLY excited he bites things and when you are a shark, that is a REALLY big problem. Sammy has a very interesting first day of school trying to not get so excited that he ends of chomping the books, the chairs, the desks, or, GULP, the teacher!

Countdown to Kindergarten by Alison McGhee

There are ten days left until kindergarten and the rumor is that you have to know how to tie your shoes in kindergarten and that if you don’t know how to and they come untied no one will help you. There is a lot of worry and angst leading up to the big day until she actually gets to school and realizes that hardly anyone knows how to tie their shoes and that they WILL help you. Phew!
